New Balance launches eco-shoe collection
Runner-driven sneaker company New Balance is on their way to adding an eco-driven collection of shoes to its outdoor line of durable, reliable footwear.
These shoes will include environmentally-friendly materials, as well as construction and manufacturing. Dubbed the New Balance 70, its to be launched later this month.
The company claims that 75% of its components are made of sustainable materials, and other parts, including the laces and webbing, are developed from recycled polyester. Fewer solvents and other synthetics make up the remainder.
Combined with this is the addition of a rice husk filler in the outsole, which reduces the amount of rubber – and therefore petroleum – needed. The adhesives are water based, and no extra wrapping and stuffing is used in the packaging.
