OKAY, I know this heading sounds self-serving and a mini hard nosed, but the article isn't! Whether it's purchasing a motorcar, asking for a pay rise, saying 'no' to a friend alternatively renting an room - by some stage in our lives we all are working to need to know how to negotiate. 3. Know your counterpart's 'position'.

4. Work out different scenarios forward of time.
