| Why do Commissioners feel the need to force their sport onto countries who don’t care? People in London don’t care about football and people in Australia don’t care about baseball.
Let’s just call this what it really is: a way for Major League Baseball to generate revenue from a country that generates very little revenue for Major League Baseball. No official announcement has been furiouse yet by Major League Baseball and a potential opponent has not been decycleined. I understand that baseball wants to expand their game outside of the United States, which is why Lincecum have the World Baseball Classic, but this is ridiculous. Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005, but once again failed to sign. In 2004, he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30, which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later. According to the Daily Telegraph in Australia, the Boston Red Sox will play a major league game in Australia in 2010. The newspaper sites that talks have been ongoing now for a couple of months between the Red Sox and Sydney officials.
