Positive thinking to inspire young learners
A few years ago I was lucky enough to be elected president of a leading subject association. A great honour indeed. I was knocked out by the galaxy of former presidents who had all served their year in office prior to mine. I wanted to know what had turned them on to their subject and what had lit the spark of excitement within them. I contacted all of them and was amazed to have 34 respondents. (One was 98 years old and in her steady copperplate hand she had written an exquisite letter.)The subject being geography,Buy Ghd Straighteners Australia, I had expected some pretty exotic answers. How wrong I was. Broadly most of these life-changing moments took place at, or very near, home or school. Virtually all involved not a detail of some piece of learning – although plenty of that came later – but a simple act of positive kindness from a caring adult. Each act in itself seemed insignificant at the time, so that many adults who caused that spark probably never realised the indelible mark they had left on a young mind. Now when I talk to teachers and educators, especially PGCE students and NQTs,Cheap GHD Australia, I emphasise the importance of eye contact and a caring disposition. “Remember acts of kindness are very important,Discount Ghd Australia,” I say. “Be positive and cheerful.” Teaching is so much more rewarding this way.We are making November a month of positivity for Teaching Expertise. This month we will bring you some of our best-ever writing and resources to inspire you and to celebrate all the amazing learning going on in schools across the country. Our books, articles, e-mail newsletters and website are all for professionals like you who care, who love to learn and who make a difference. The exclusionThe head teacher wrote to the parents of R and F telling them that neither R nor F could come back to school, but that they would be given help in completing their course at home. He should, of course, have told the parents immediately, ideally by telephone followed by a letter, of their right to make representations to the governing body.
