Brooks Brothers – Built On Good Old Fashioned Values
If ever there was a great retail story to tell to display how the American dream works then the story of Brooks Brothers is the perfect example. In April 1818 a store opened in New York City called H. & D.H. Brooks and Co. by Henry Brooks and if someone had to tell him that by the year 2009 this name would have become synonymous with the finest high quality clothing and that his brand will by then be the oldest clothing retail brand in the history of the United States of America, he would probably not have believed it.
Yet, that is exactly what happened. Today the company is called Brooks Brothers and they are owned by Retail Brand Alliance, but they still operate on those values first instilled by Henry Brooks that got them to where they are today. He is often quoted as saying: “To make and deal only in merchandise of the finest body, to sell it at a fair profit and to deal with people who seek and appreciate such merchandise."
Although the last Brooks brother that was actually involved with the company left when it was bought out in 1946, the new owners decided to keep the name as the knew that people knew that can expect the best quality and exceptional service when they go there.
