As this meditation makes clearthe deity in question is described
in precise detail so that the adept knows that he is visualizing the
correct deity. The ceremonial garb including the cap and the tal-
ismans indicates that the deity is of a high rankas is only fitting for
a deity who is associated with the heart – the most regal of all the
bodily organs. The visualization has to take place at a certain date
which is also indicative of the network of cosmic correspondences
that have an effect upon the spiritual life of the Daoist. Not only
