First, there was the holdout in preseason and then a Week 2 hamstring injury. The long-term deal Darrelle Revis signed in mid-September is beginning to look like an investment that may not reap full benefits until next year. The Jets need Revis to be himself for the stretch run and especially for the playoffs.
Some good news came Monday. Revis said of the Green Bay game: “I’m ready to go. I’ll be there Sunday. We did everything we could this week. The week helped out for me to stay up here and get all the treatment that I needed to get, so I’m ready to go.” [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Three Questions for Jets as They Return
1. How Is Revis’s Hamstring?
Tomlinson had just 243 touches on the ball last season in San Diego, and this year’s projected numbers indicate a more then 20 percent increase. Should the Jets’ coaching staff ease up on him to increase the chances that he’s in top shape for the postseason?
The Jets can win without Revis, especially given the return to form of Antonio Cromartie and the rise of young players like Drew Coleman and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] over the past few games. But a healthy Revis makes them a Super Bowl-caliber team.
The question is no longer whether Tomlinson can still be a game-breaker, it’s how much juice he will have left at the end of the season. If form holds and he remains healthy, he should have 245 carries and more than 50 catches this season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an impressive number of totes for a 10-year veteran who is 31. 2. Can Tomlinson Stay Fresh (and Healthy)?
The Jets may have made the best off-season acquisition in the N.F.L. when they signed LaDainian Tomlinson to be a third-down back and help spell the incumbent starter, Shonn Greene. Tomlinson is on pace for his best rushing season since 2007 and is averaging more yards per carry then he has at any time since 2003. Defenses are getting tired of seeing the back of his calf muscles (each emblazoned with a tattoo, one for the Jets and one for the Chargers).
