Jason Snelling Rushes to Rescue Falcons Again
You could always see the potential for excitement from [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. He could cut and move and run away from you. He was the Falcons answer to Reggie Bush of the Saints: a third-down guy who could scoot after the catch.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], remember, had the fastest time in the 2006 NFL Combine (4.33 seconds in the 40).
But he was too fragile.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] missed six games in 2009 with injury and then blew out his knee on a kickoff last Sunday in the home opener against the Cardinals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an impressive 41-7 Atlanta victory. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] will miss the rest of the season.
So if there was ever a time for former Virginia back Jason Snelling to step up, this was it. Snelling rushed for 129 yards, caught five passes, and scored three touchdowns to lead the rout of Arizona.
He excels at running between the tackles, but is also effective on the edge.
There is even more reason to admire Snelling because he successfully deals with epilepsy. It caused him to miss a season of football at UVa because he was not managing the condition, which can cause seizures and death.
Snelling was 15 when he was diagnosed and was afraid to talk about the disease for years. When he was at UVa sitting out a season, he refused to talk publicly about his condition until he returned to the team.
Now, Snelling his willing to share his story and support others with the condition.
This is not the first time Snelling has come to the rescue of the Falcons. In 2009, when Michael Turner was out with an injury, Snelling ran for 613 yards, including a 147-yard game against Tampa.
That's not bad for a seventh round draft pick (2007).
The Falcons signed running back Gartrell Johnson and put him on the active roster. The club also signed former SMU back Shawnbrey McNeal, who spent time in the Chargers preseason camp before being waived.
Johnson played at Colorado State and rushed for 1,476 yards his senior season.
To make room, the Falcons cut linebacker Bear Woods, a fan favorite in training camp.
