Just before noon this morning (and hours before my first fantasy draft) a report surfaced that wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh had signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens worth $855,000, according to league sources.
ESPN reported the deal.
Now Joe Flacco begins the NFL season with Anquan Boldin, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Houshmanzadeh, Todd Heap and Ray Rice as his receiving targets. With Donte Stallworth out with a broken foot, Housh likely will play in the slot.
Housh won't put up Welker-esque numbers in this role by any means,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but you could take a flyer on him on over [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] in the mid-to-late rounds. Flacco likes his dump-offs to Rice, his quick-outs to Heap, and having Houshmandzadeh as a sure-handed target on short routes across the middle puts the former Seahawks wideout in his new quarterback's wheelhouse.
The question now becomes - does Rice lose some catches to Houshmandzadeh? I say it's inevitable, but Rice is still a top-4 pick despite Housh's addition.
