Stocking everything from Victorian gowns to achingly-cool new labels Zambesi, double m, Jessica McComack and AM Eyewear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you're bound to find something to fall in love with - and it helps that everything's for sale, from the clothes on the rails to the enormous gold desk at which Merchant (currently) works.
"The concept behind merchant archive is really to inspire, to harmonise old and new. It's an extension of my own personal style," she explains. "I've always loved vintage everything - reclaimed furniture, salvage haberdashery,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], archive garments, the heaven of a cream Twenties collar or a Victorian beaded cape... But because I'm a modern girl too,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I believe vintage is at its best when teamed with something contemporary."
Merchant was selling vintage by appointment from home until "a stiff drink and a harsh word from a good friend" inspired her to take the plunge and open a store, and she picked the perfect outlet for her creative oasis: an old Lipton general store that retains many original features, making for a cool, gallery-like feel.
