WHEN Helena Christensen champions a label,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she means business - which is why we're expecting big things from Central Saint Martin's-trained designer Lisa Larsson. "I remember in my first lesson at college, the tutor saying that 'fashion isn't about making pretty dresses',[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Larsson tells us. "Which is ironic,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], really,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as that's exactly what I do." Since graduating with a first class degree in Fashion Design with Marketing in 2004,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the designer's own-name label has quietly been gathering industry accolades and loyal fans; she won Whistles' Best New Designer award for her debut spring/summer 2006 collection,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has shown as part of the V&A's Fashion in Motion programme and won a business grant from high-profile fashion fund NESTA. But it was when Helena was photographed in a Forties-style Lisa Larsson tea dress earlier this year that the designer was really catapulted into the fashion spotlight. With an emphasis on flattering a woman's body,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], her signature draped silhouette, in sumptuous jerseys, is classic but fresh. She has designed a pioneering technique which allows the wearer to gather seams to best fit their own body - and eschews trend-led pieces in favour of pretty, simple styles with a hint of decadence. "My parents are both Swedish and moved to the UK in the Seventies," she explains. "I think that I still have a strong Swedish influence in my style in that the look is quite clean and not too fussy. The emphasis is more on cut and details than making a huge avant garde statement."
