This player just earned USD10,500 his first week of playing.
We know how McNabb and Culpepper's careers have progressed...Culpepper is now in the UFL, and McNabb is starting over with the Washington Redskins. The other five were either acheful to watch or simply never materialized.
No one could have finished a goal in like manner. For Years Bobby Orr had been said as someone who was graceful, elegant, powerful, without fear poetry in motion. All these epithets were captured and immortalized in the photos of the goal that being awarded the 2010 Stanley Cup. Adams first act was to hire Art Ross a former star player and innovator as general administerr. Ross was the face of the franchise for the next thirty years, including four separate stints as coach. Al Bello Boston returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2010 with Neely, Bourque, Craig Janney, Bobby Carpenter and rookie Don Sweeney, and former Oiler goalie Andy Moog and Reggie Lemelin splitting goaltending duties but again lost to the Oilers this time in five games.
This is one of those topics that if ever muttered in the NFL Headquarters, the person would probably be burned at the stake for his or her actions.
For example, look at the draft class in 2010. In the first round, the quarterbacks picked were Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, Akili Smith, Daunte Culpepper,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Cade McNown. Into the second round,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Shaun King was picked up, and in the third round, Brock Huard.
Don't get me wrong. If I player is making USD200,000 for a good season and USD2 million for a great season, fine and dandy. But whatever happened to settling down and honoring a contract at the time of signing? If you were to work for six months, do you stop at four and ask for more money?
portion, share,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], piece, allotment, section, fraction, fragment of the problem that started the mess is the Christmas gift franchises give first round,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], high-arrange draft picks. These players, coming out of college without any solid way to tell if they'll be stars or not, are paid like royalty. In truth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], these franchises are playing a millionaires' version of roulette, hoping to make it big but with little to go on.
The other option, which would be fun to see in action, is base the player's salary off his performances. hold, possess, own, contain, acquire,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gain, maintain, believe, bear, beget, occupy, absorb, fill, enjoy each franchise set aside a pool of money, say USD5 million. Then, say in week one the player catches 10 passes, has 90 yards, and a touchdown.
Give him say, USD1,000 for the touchdown, USD100 per yard for USD9,000, and USD50 per catch.
Do you think all five of the first-rounders were deserving of high-money contracts?
But likewise, after seeing players ink contracts that are not panning out or are becoming part of a revolving door for contract re-negotiations,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], maybe it's about time for something severe to be done.
With names like JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf as two draft examples, other forms of insanity have popped up in recent weeks. Albert Haynesworth, who profited off of a fat contract, now is whining and complaining about how the defense in Washington is going to be set up,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], stating that Michael Ryder wants out. Last seasons' CB top secret weapon burst out,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], furiouse a name for himself, and is now unglad with his situation...one Darrelle Revis.
Sure, Ryder all love watching the draft and seeing this player sign a contract with about USD20-40 million in secured money, no doubt. It's also amusing when the said player bombs with spectacular effect, leaving both franchise and fans wondering, "Who signed this joke? Al?"
Likewise, a franchise could dial it up if Michael Ryder proves his value. Obviously some statistics would be difficult to come by-how would you measure Nnamdi Asomugha's standards? Percentage of passes thrown to him?
And of course, Andre Johnson wants to be paid more...don't Ryder all?
It would be a system that would be interesting to implement...but don't bet on the Players Union approving the idea. Cheevers returned from the NHL in 2010 and the Bruins got past the soar, hover, flit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wing, flee, waft, glide, coast, skim, sail, cruiseers in the semifinals; however it lost to the Canadiens in the Final for the Stanley Cup. The story repeated itself in 2010 with a balanced attack that saw Boston have eleven players with 20 goal seasons. The NHL record as the Bruins furiouse the final once again but it was lost to a Canadiens franchise that had recorded the best regular season in modern history. Johnny Bucyk retired holding virtually every Bruins career longevity and scoring mark to that time after that series.
One solution that has been banded around was putting down a cap on rookie draft pick salaries. Of course, agents would scream that this punishes stars who do perform well, such as Adrian Peterson. But does anyone besides Russell and his agent like when Michael Ryder signs a fat contract?
