THREE days of mainstream extravagance was brought to a near yesterday as Jean Paul Gaultier,?Elie Saab and?Valentino took to the catwalk showcasing their spring/summer 2009 couture productions to the likes of Kylie Minogue, Catherine Deneuve, Dita Von Teese and Mischa Barton.
Appropriately demure (as couture,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], anyhow), was a sober colour palette of black,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], pearly and grey,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with few-and-far-between injections of mordant green and ruby, from Jean Paul Gaultier. The designer's signature crinoline and corset styles were there - splaying,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], fanned skirts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and sculpted-to-the-body jackets - beside male tailoring.
Shades of peppermint, violet and sky blue were interspersed among a mainly peach, gold and beige collection by Elie Saab, where folds festooned themselves down the front of clothes - both long and short - and petals morphed into pencil skirts. Texture-laden, no look was complete without a shimmer of iridescence.
At Valentino,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there was a grown-up feel to the 1st accumulation from new designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. Ensembles were sophisticated in gem intonations - magenta, ruby, garnet and turquoise - and featured shipshape bow, rosette and bead detailing.
