The designer's decision to concentrate on his own label follows speculation that he was frustrated by cutbacks at Blass' parent company,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], NexCen Brands Inc,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which meant that his spring/summer 2009 Bill Blass collection didn't even get a catwalk show at?New York Fashion Week in September but was shown to buyers only.
"Peter Som's design direction was instrumental in helping the Bill Blass brand stay relevant in the minds of consumers," Bill Blass president Craig Hoffman tells WWD. "We thank him for his contributions and wish him success in the future."

AFTER weeks of whispers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],?Peter Som has confirmed that he has indeed given up his role as head of womenswear at?Bill Blass after just one year at the helm.
However, publicly at least,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there's no hard feelings between Som and his former management.
For now it's believed that Prabal Gurung, who has long served as Bill Blass' second-ranking design director, will be working with the existing team to produce the upcoming autumn/winter 2009-10 collection while the search begins for a permanent replacement for Som. Watch this space.
