MARIGOT--The Goldfinger jewellery store located opposite Dauphin Telecom on Rue de la R閜ublique was robbed of thirteen Rolex watches in a daring smash-and-grab raid Wednesday morning.
Prosecutor Jacques Louvier confirmed last night that the incident had taken place at 10:00am.
Two young men described by Louvier as minors entered the shop with their faces concealed by helmets. One was carrying a hammer and the other a handgun. While one held the shop staff at gunpoint the other smashed a glass showcase and removed 13 Rolex watches before the two made their escape on a scooter.
Louvier estimated the value of the stolen goods to be approximately US $350,000. He said none of the staff had been assaulted or hurt in the incident.
Wednesday抯 raid brings an end to a relatively quite period that has seen very few or no armed robberies taking place since the arrival of the 44/2Bellac Gendarmerie brigade.
No details of the robbery were released by the Gendarmerie yesterday
