AS the fashion pack prepare to transfer towards our large capital, Fashion Week in New York winds to a near. Some of the industry's huge guns have waited until the last act to unveil their visions - and a good potion of tongue-in-cheek subversion was just what the front-row-weary medium ambitioned yesterday.
Hollywood's golden boy, Zac Posen, showed a collection of typical exuberance with opulent fabrics in fruitful jewel tones - yet the accidental presence of 5 pianos ashore the catwalk (which were played throughout the show) lent a decadent recession-rejecting edge.
Master of minimalism Francisco Costa likewise surprised at Calvin Klein, with a collection inspired at the wealthy tapestry of Sante Fe linens, but drew the line at neon. Tommy Hilfiger, whilst showing a Fifth Avenue-friendly collection in camel and beige did so to the strains of Carly Simon's You're so vain - suggesting it wasn't always so solemn at last.
Colour, confidence and lunatic, as forever, characterised Isaac Mizrahi - and the fash pack yelled in joy for a collection called De Nile laughed by the credit crunch with plaid,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lime green and handbags worn as hats.
Only Ralph Lauren, L'Wren Scott and one alternatively two other stragglers are still apt show today - and then London's fashion mavericks take hub stage.
