Thai Lawmaker,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 6 Others Detained at Thai-Cambodian Border
A Thai lawmaker and 6 companions were briefly withheld by Cambodian authorities who charged that the group illegally crossed into Cambodia.
Panich Vikitsreth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a membership of Thailand's verdict Democrat Party,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was visiting a disputed frame place Wednesday with at least 1 other member of a group cried the Thailand Patriotic Network to investigate grumbles that Cambodian crews were intruding into Thailand.
The Bangkok Post says Vikitsreth was able to approach Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva by tel and the group was unlocked later Wednesday. It quotes the legislator saying the group was aboard Thai taint when they were captured in an area where Cambodia meets Thailand's eastward Sa Kaeo province.
Relations between Thailand and Cambodia have deteriorated emulating a catena of border clashes over disputed territory involving Preah Vihear, a Hindu temple dating from the 11th century. UNESCO has alleged the area a U.N. World Heritage site below Cambodian control.
The countries also feuded when Phnom Penh nominated Thaksin Shinawatra as one economy adviser. Thaksin was evicted as Thai prime minister in a coup in 2006, and faces corruption charges in Bangkok.
